As we reopen humans are coming back into the streets that the Birds have had control of during Lockdown especially the Seagulls and Pigeons! Their food sources include bins - scavenging from urban and commercial food waste and they have become used to not being disturbed. These birds carry many transferable diseases to humans. Seagull poo presents a health and safety hazard, with slips, trips and falls. Gulls can be aggressive at this time of year when they have young in the nest.

We don’t always think of birds as a pest but they can be. Whether it’s the noise they make early in the morning, the acidity of their droppings which can harm paintwork, or the pecking of woodwork, some birds can be a real pest. They may carry bird mites which can bite humans, causing an itchy rash, and their droppings put you and your family at risk of fungal lung diseases, and bacteria which could cause food poisoning, including salmonella. So whether you have pigeons, starlings, seagulls or one of the many other bird species in Ireland, we can help you get rid of the problem as humanely as possible.

Bird Netting: – prevents the birds from entering an area of a building, store or warehouse. The most effective method of bird proofing, if done properly, using the correct methods by trained personnel. These nets are attached to buildings using a special wire around the edge of the building/wall/opening/roof area and the netting is attached to this.

50mm netting is primarily used for control of larger type birds e.g. pigeons, seagulls, crows, jackdaws, magpies

19mm netting is used for smaller type birds e.g. starlings

Bird Spikes: -prevents birds landing, perching or roosting on ledges Mainly stainless steel spikes fixed onto a plastic track which is in turn attached onto the surface to be controlled e.g. ridge of a rooftop, window cills, ledges, etc

The long type spikes are used to deter larger birds-pigeons, seagulls, crows, jackdaws, magpies The normal type are used for the smaller type birds, e.g. starlings Sometimes a combination of spikes and netting products are used depending on the circumstances found.

Bird Deterrents: – used to deter existing flocks from re-entering an area Flying birds of prey e.g. Hawk and using hawk kites also Distress call mechanisms deters some bird species from re-entering an area. This method is most effective if used in conjunction with other methods.

Bird Proofing: Blocking off areas to prevent roosting/nesting is usually a combination of methods, netting, etc

Bird Culls: Sometimes used as a method, but usually as a last resource, used primarily on health & safety grounds or the prevention of destruction of crops, in some cases derogation may have to be sought.

Pigeons: Are responsible for millions of Euro of damage to properties each year. The feral Pigeon is classed as vermin and they can pose a serious health risk to people, carrying a multitude of diseases and renowned for harbouring biting insects which include mites, they are also responsible for intestinal infections and respiratory problems.
